Fishing Quota-Kaitiakitanga

Yesterday we learnt about the NZ fishing quota system. A fishing quota can mean if you go to a place with a lot of fish you are only allowed to catch a certain amount of fish every time it is basically a shared fish stock and over fishing. There are more than 76% of native fish at the risk of  extinction. People who fish from the sea are classified as recreational fisherman(you and me) and commercial fisherman(licensed to haul large amounts of fish.)

If we didn’t have this system then there would be no more fish left as people would take as much fish as they wanted.e.g. blue cod limit is 15 per day per person.

Inquiry-Kaitiakitanga-JNR Playground

This year we are learning about kaitiakitanga. Kaitiakitanga is where you take care of stuff and be a guardian to other peoples stuff if you want to see some of the other things learned click here. Last week on Friday we went to the junior playground to check it out. We found out that all the little kids stand on the plants and kick rocks out of the swale click here to hear me talk about what I saw.
